Each of the 32 rays from the centre is cut into three. The innermost ring encloses Brahma; the middle band across each side carries its presiding devta — Bhudhar (N), Aryama (E), Viviswan (S), Mitra (W) — the outer half of each side's two end pairs carries eight more, and the outermost band holds the remaining 32. Because every division is a proportion of that ray's own length, the mandala follows the shape of this house.
